The finish is where metalwork becomes art. Raw fabrication creates the form; finishing creates the character. At Brass Works, we offer an extensive palette of finishes — from the warm brilliance of Polished Brass to the aged dignity of Verdi Gris — and can produce custom patinas to match any design specification. Our finishing specialists work with architects, designers, and clients to identify the approach that best serves the long-term vision for each piece.

Every finish listed below is available on all materials we work with — brass, bronze, copper, nickel, and stainless steel. Some finishes are naturalistic expressions of the base metal; others involve plating, chemical patination, or mechanical texturing. All are produced with the durability and depth that characterize Brass Works pieces.

Brass Finishes

Polished Brass

The classic mirror-bright finish that maximizes the warm golden color of brass. Brilliant, reflective, and unmistakably luxurious. Requires periodic maintenance in high-touch environments but is ideal for architectural elements, decorative objects, and statement pieces in residential and hospitality settings.

Satin Brass

A brushed or matte version of polished brass with a softer, more contemporary look. Less prone to showing fingerprints; excellent for bar nosing, handlesets, and architectural fittings that see regular contact. Currently one of the most requested finishes for hospitality and commercial environments.

Antiqued Brass

A chemically produced patina that darkens the brass selectively, emphasizing texture and depth. Creates the appearance of age and heritage without the unpredictability of natural weathering. Particularly effective on ornate or hammered pieces where relief detail benefits from shadow.

Tarnished Brass

A deeper, richer version of antiqued brass with more pronounced darkening. Evokes historic craftsmanship and pairs beautifully with wood-paneled environments, leather furnishings, and period interiors.

Nickel Finishes

Polished Nickel

A bright, cool-white metallic finish with more blue undertones than polished brass. Versatile in both modern and traditional interiors. Plated over brass or steel substrate. An elegant alternative to chrome with significantly more warmth and character.

Satin Nickel

A brushed nickel finish with a warm, muted sheen. One of the most popular finishes for residential and hospitality metalwork due to its versatility and fingerprint resistance. Works across contemporary, transitional, and traditional design vocabularies.

Matte Nickel

Flatter and cooler than satin nickel, with an almost industrial refinement. Works particularly well in contemporary minimalist environments and pairs effectively with concrete, white oak, and monochromatic interiors.

Antique Nickel

Darkened nickel finish with shadowing in recesses. Creates a layered, aged quality that reads as deeply crafted rather than machined. Sophisticated choice for high-end residential and hospitality applications.

Stainless Steel & Bronze Finishes

Polished Stainless Steel

Mirror-bright stainless. Maximum reflectivity and a hyper-modern aesthetic. Excellent for kitchen hoods, commercial bar elements, and contemporary architectural features. Easy to maintain with proper cleaning products.

Satin Stainless Steel

Brushed stainless with a linear grain texture. The workhorse finish for commercial and residential applications where durability and clean aesthetics are both required. Hygienic, corrosion-resistant, and fingerprint-tolerant.

Bronze / Satin Bronze

Rich brown metallic with warm undertones. Available in satin or polished variants. Deep and warm, effective in traditional and transitional environments. Pairs beautifully with natural stone, dark wood, and leather.

Specialty & Custom Finishes

US10B — Oil Rubbed Bronze

A living finish that develops character over time through natural oxidation and hand contact. The darker, oiled appearance suits traditional and rustic environments. Standard code in architectural specifications (US10B = BHMA/ANSI designation). One of our most requested finishes for hospitality hardware and residential fixtures.

Verdi Gris

The iconic blue-green patina of aged copper and bronze. We produce controlled Verdi Gris finishes through chemical treatment, allowing consistent results. Exceptional for exterior architectural elements, garden ornaments, and sculpture-adjacent decorative pieces where the aged-copper look is the design intent.

Random Patina on Brass

An organic, artisanal finish where natural variations in the patina are embraced rather than controlled. Each piece is unique. Particularly effective on large, flat surfaces where variation creates visual interest that manufactured consistency cannot replicate.

Random Base Finish

A base surface treatment applied before additional finishing, creating texture that shows through translucent topcoats or provides mechanical adhesion for specialty finishes. Available on all materials.
